An Australian man gave his puppy the scare of his life after he let out a huge scream when he discovered he had won $1.7 million.
The man from Quakers Hill, in Sydney’s western suburbs, was the sole Division 1 winner in Lotto Strike draw 5142 on Saturday.
He told The Lott that after discovering his new millionaire status, he let out a loud scream, scaring his puppy who was sleeping in his bed.
The man’s girlfriend, who was away for the weekend, only found out about the win when she arrived at The Lott headquarters on Wednesday.
“Tuesday morning, I asked her when she was free to go for a drive because I wanted to surprise her,” the man explained.
“We got in the car and I took her straight to the Lott Prize Claims office. She annoyed me the whole way, asking me where we were going.
“As soon as we got out of the elevator, she immediately burst into tears. She kept crying, and crying, and crying.

The man said the $1.7 million would help his family get through a difficult time.
“We were going through a tough time, so this is really going to help us financially,” he said.
“It will be such a positive influence on our family.” »
The man was alone at the breakfast table when he discovered he had won a total of $1,704,523, although he initially thought he had won $100.
“Then I saw I had three numbers and I said, ‘Wow! Five hundred dollars!’” he recalls.
“It continued, and then I saw the fourth issue and started shouting, ‘You, beauty! You, beauty!”
“My poor dog jumped out of his bed and ran away. My little puppy was so scared, but then he got excited.
“My dog was the first one I told!”
His winning entry was not recorded, meaning Lott officials had to wait for the man to show up to claim his prize.
The man added that a “series of fortunate events” led to the mammoth prize.

“It’s funny because I don’t normally even buy tickets for Lotto Strike draws, but the guy at the news agency recommended it to me and I said, ‘Why not! Give me eight lucky plays,” he recalls.
“I don’t normally visit the news agency on Fridays either. I always buy my tickets on Saturday, so it’s funny how this all worked out.
Jeff Shen, owner of Quakers Court news agency, said his team was delighted his news agency had sold another winning division one ticket.
“We were so excited to learn that we had sold a winning Lotto Strike Division 1 entry, and we couldn’t be happier for the winning man,” he said.
“We have already decorated our store with balloons and posters and shared this great news with our customers.
“Congratulations to the winner and we wish them all the best with their prize.”
This man’s winning numbers were 44, 40, 35 and 17.
There are more chances of winning big with Oz Lotto offering $30 million, while Thursday’s Powerball offers $4 million up for grabs.
