Atlassian to cut hundreds of jobs after CEO Scott Farquhar did a recruitment drive across Australia

Date:

Atlassian is cutting hundreds of jobs just months after its billionaire CEO toured the country in a van recruitment campaign, promising incredible work-from-home benefits to 1,000 Aussies

Australian software giant Atlassian is cutting 500 jobs just months after co-CEO Scott Farquhar toured the country on a massive recruitment drive.

It was announced that 500 full-time employees — or 5 percent of Atlassian’s workforce — would be laid off amid an economic downtown significantly affected by technology companies.

Billionaire co-founders Mike Cannon-Brookes and Scott Farquhar sent an internal memo to staff outlining the company’s “difficult decision” to lay off employees.

“We have made the difficult decision to rebalance our team to better position Atlassian for the long term,” the pair wrote.

“We came to this decision as a management team and with our board, but ultimately the ultimate calling lies with us as co-founders. To those who are about to leave us, we are deeply sorry.”

More to come.
