At least eight people have died after two boats capsized near Blacks Beach in California on Saturday night.

The San Diego Fire and Rescue Department responded to a call at 11:30 p.m. at the San Diego County beach, but the rescue effort turned into a recovery.

Authorities said the two panga boats, which is a style of fishing boat commonly used in the Caribbean and Central America, crashed and capsized.

Two helicopters were dispatched to search for victims last night, but SDFD said conditions were too cloudy.

The SDFD will resume recovery efforts on Sunday morning.

They said ABC 10News that they hope conditions improve and plan to call in additional teams to help.
