At least five people were injured in a shooting near a beach in San Pedro on Saturday evening, authorities said.
Police received a call at 5:44 p.m. about gunfire on a beach near Paseo del Mar and Graysby Avenue, said Lieutenant Sharon Brady of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Harbor Community Police Station.
Brady said four people shot by aid workers were taken to local hospitals.
Just before 7 p.m., she learned that a fifth person had been injured and taken to hospital by a friend.
“Some are in critical condition, some are stable and some are serious,” Brady said.
As of Saturday night, no suspects had been arrested.
Warren Moore, an LAPD spokesman, said a suspect fled the scene in a gray sedan, driving along Paseo del Mar. Moore said the suspect has been described as a man in his 20s with a short haircut, dressed in all black, including a black mask, and believed to have fired a semi-automatic pistol.
The area was an “active crime scene,” Moore said just before 7:30 p.m
