At least 17 people were injured in an incident at the Pitchess Detention Center in Castaic on Tuesday morning, authorities said.
Three people have been taken to a hospital — one in critical condition and two in moderate condition, said Henry Narvaez, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The remaining 14 were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Paramedics answered a call for medical attention at the Pitchess Detention Center just before 10:30 a.m., Narvaez said.
According to the initial call, there were three patients requiring medical attention. Paramedics were referred to the prison infirmary.
When more emergency services arrived on the scene, it was determined that only three patients needed to be transported to a hospital and the rest had only minor injuries.
The nature of the injuries is under investigation and emergency services have not said whether the patients are prisoners or staff.
