At least 100 people, including children, suffered food poisoning after eating dessert at a wedding in Mexico.

A video posted on TikTok showed seriously ill guests being treated on the grounds of the banquet hall in the central city of Cuernavaca shortly after midnight on Sunday.

The paramedics could be seen treating a woman who was sitting in a chair while he spoke to them.

Another paramedic stood next to a weeding guest who was hunched over a chair while a person desperately used folded paper as a fan to help him cool down.

Another woman who looked visibly ill sat nearby while a man comforted her.

Footage also showed concerned guests wandering around the entrance area checking on some of the other sick guests.

Others stood next to an ambulance as a paramedic spoke to a man who was trying to get into the vehicle. Several other guests could also be seen waiting outside an ambulance where one person was being assisted on a stretcher.

Azteca Noticias reported that several wedding guests remained hospitalized as of Monday.

Food and drinks were provided by Grupo Paraíso, a wedding planning service, according to the outlet.

It is unknown what type of dessert the caterer served.

DailyMail.com has contacted Grupo Paraíso for comment.

A similar incident occurred in June 2023 when the groom and 109 guests fell ill with stomach pain, diarrhea and vomiting after a wedding reception in the central city of Tepotzotlán, north of Mexico City.

At least 12 people were rushed to area hospitals, while 64 were treated at the wedding hall.

Another person died and 37 became ill from food poisoning at a wedding in Salamanca, Spain, in July 2023.

With the start of wedding season right around the corner, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has information brides and grooms should look for when hiring catering companies.

Couples should ask who on staff is certified to handle food.

“Certification means adequate training in safe food handling methods,” the agency states.

They should also ask the caterers what potential allergens will be used in the foods that will be offered to your guests on your special day.

“Notify guests of common allergens, such as milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, and soy,” the USDA notes.

He also mentions that it is important to know where the food will be prepared.

And if taking place outside the wedding reception location, the USDA recommends that it is important to “have enough knives, cutting boards, dish towels, and dish soap available for on-site preparation.”

The USSA also warns not to “leave food out for more than 2 hours” and that “perishable products can only be left out for 1 hour during warm summer temperatures (90°F and above).”
