According to the police, a large area covering Schöntal Park was cordoned off and rail traffic in the area was temporarily suspended.

The suspect is believed to have tried to escape by running along nearby train tracks, according to a German newspaper. Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reported.

In November, police classified parts of the city center park as a “dangerous location” due to a rise in “drug-related crimes,” which reportedly included robberies and assaults.

There were reported to be regular patrols in the area, which is possibly why the suspect was detained so quickly.

Police have asked for witnesses to come forward and share relevant photographs or videos as the investigation into the attack continues.
