An asylum seeker has been found after being separated from a group who arrived in Australia illegally by boat.

He was located in the Mitchell Plateau area of northern Western Australia on Sunday morning and is now being assessed by authorities.

He is believed to have become separated from a “group of Chinese nationals” who arrived in the remote Kimberley region at around 4pm on Friday.

Questioned about border security concerns, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese argued that no changes would be made to the country’s approach to border protection in response to the latest arrival.

‘We have a very large coastline. What is clear, however, is that unauthorized arrivals will not be settled in Australia,” he said.

“The principles of Operation Sovereign Borders will apply as they have in this case.”

More to come.
