Steven Gerrard reveals Aston Villa is ready to make more signings as newcomers Philippe Coutinho and Lucas Digne can make their debut against Manchester United
- Aston Villa rents Philippe Coutinho until the end of the season
- The Midlands outfit also signed Everton’s Lucas Digne for a £25m fee
- The newcomers could make their debut against Man United on Saturday
- But boss Steven Gerrard has said the club is ready to make more purchases
Steven Gerrard says Aston Villa is ready to make new purchases this month, following the arrest of Philippe Coutinho and Lucas Digne.
Villa has made the most waves in the January transfer window so far, putting Gerrard’s former Liverpool team-mate on loan from Barcelona before paying £25million to sign Digne from Everton.
Ahead of Saturday’s game against Manchester United, in which both players could make their debuts, Gerrard said he would like to add a central midfielder and a central defender before the window closes.

“Maybe there will be opportunities again,” he said. “It’s steel and style we’re looking for.
“Can we find that level of player that will improve the team, or do we need coverage for injuries or suspension?
“I like to have four central defenders and we only have three, so we are analyzing that situation.”
Coutinho looks likely to be named among the substitutes when he returns to the Premier League, four years after coming from Liverpool to Barcelona for £146 million.
But Digne could be included from the get-go, as he played regularly for Everton this season before his relationship with manager Rafael Benitez deteriorated.
