Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez suffered an injury while playing for Argentina on Tuesday – he was briefly eliminated after a serious fall.
The former Arsenal star, who played only his second game for his country in their 2-2 draw against Colombia, went up to claim the ball under a challenge from Everton defender Yerry Mina, but landed on his head just before half-time .
Martinez received medical attention on the pitch as concerns grew for the 28-year-old and he was eventually stretched out and replaced by Porto goalkeeper Agustin Marchesin.

Lionel Scaloni’s men had taken an early 2-0 lead in their World Cup qualifier against the Colombians, with Cristian Romero scoring after three minutes and Leandro Paredes adding a second just five minutes later.
But after Martinez withdrew, the home side rallied after the break – Luis Muriel shot away a penalty before Miguel Borja equalized with the final kick of the game.
Martinez insists he’s ‘fine’ after being taken off the track, even if it left a ‘bitter taste’ to be replaced during a proud moment in his career – only to later find out the team wasn’t in it managed to secure the victory.
“I’m better, it was a hard blow, but the doctors have done their job,” he told the Mirror.

“Of course I wanted to play on, the rage of being knocked out, and I found out they tied in the end.”
He was left in tears after being dragged away, admitting he was ‘angry’ not to play the full game after he ended up coming out as Argentina’s strongest goalkeeper.
“They took me out because I lost consciousness a bit; I was hit hard in the neck, but the crying and the anger was because it was my second game with the national team and I didn’t want to be substituted.
