Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish returned to training on Monday after a six-week absence with a leg injury.

The 25-year-old has been absent from his side since he was injured in Villa’s 2-1 defeat to Leicester City on February 21.

The return of their talisman is welcome news for Villa, who has won just once and scored two goals in six games in that time.

The club’s official account tweeted: ‘Our captain, Jack Grealish, returned to first-team training at Bodymoor Heath on Monday,’ alongside a video showing him back on the grass with his teammates.

The injury also kept him out of Gareth Southgate’s England squad after he forced his way into the Three Lions squad in the previous three international breaks.

His absence from the squad was to ensure he is back in time for the return of club action, and he is expected to be fit to play against Fulham on Sunday.

News of Grealish’s initial injury was leaked to social media leading up to the Leicester clash after several teammates and staffers transferred him from their Fantasy Premier League teams.

The mercurial midfielder had a wonderful season ahead of the setback after helping Villa to the top half.

The Boyhood Villa fan has scored 18 goals in 22 Premier League games this season, already the best return of his career.

Despite his current absence, he is expected to make the 23-man squad of Three Lions for the European Championship in the summer.
