Former Indian champion VVS Laxman backed Pakistan's hitter, Shoaib Malik, to perform well against India during the upcoming Asian Cup cricket tournament. "Yes, the reason why India is doing well is his experience, he is a good spinner because in the middle invariably India will seek to attack with the spinners and now they have two quality risk spinners, Chahal and Kuldeep while Pakistan he is obviously dependent on his opening Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam at number 3, "said Starx, quoted by Star Sports. Laxman also said that Malik will have to play an important role with the bat if Pakistan does well in the tournament. "Shoaib Malik is someone who would seek to play the role of anchor because he has the ability to rotate the blow, play on the floor, take easy singles," he said.
"But at the same time, when he presses the accelerator, he can make big plays and he has a lot of experience and he's a champion when it comes to the wide ball," he added.
The six participating nations are divided into two groups, A and B. Group A consists of India, Pakistan and Hong Kong, while Group B includes Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The two best nations of each group will enter the Super Four stage of the tournament. The two best teams in the section of the super four will advance to the final.
India begins its Asian Cup campaign against Hong Kong on September 18 in its Group A match at the International Cricket Stadium in Dubai. India will play against Pakistan the next day in the same place.
The final of the Asian Cup will be played on Friday, September 28.
