Mark Wood bowls FASTER than ever at Headingley as England star hits 96.5 MPH in Ashes blitz…and catches Usman Khawaja with a 95 MPH rocket
Mark Wood blew up the speedometer as England’s pacer posted the fastest of all time at Headingley.
England have been accused of lacking pace in their attack during their first two Ashes Tests, with the likes of Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad battling Australia’s world-class batting order.
As a result, Ben Stokes signed Wood in place of the veteran bowler Anderson for the Leeds Test, immediately emphasizing the threat he represents to Australian batsmen.
Wood posted speeds of 91, 93, 95, 93, 94 and 93 mph in his first over, officially the fastest over to be bowled at Headingley.
He followed that up with a 96.5mph delivery in his second over.
The 33-year-old recorded three consecutive maidens, putting pressure on the Australian batsmen before pulling off a breakthrough in his fourth over.
Wood sent a 95mph rocket towards Usman Khawaja and the experienced opener, who dominated the first Test at Edgbaston, had no response for the launch and crashed into his stumps.
