Sex toy sales are booming during the coronavirus pandemic as couples remain separated and lonely – and those living on the Gold Coast buy more X-rated goods than any other city.
One of the largest online adult toy stores in Australia, The hotspot, reports a 42 percent increase in sales across Australia for the month of March, compared to March 2019.
Dating from demand and couples spanning two households not allowed to meet, sales of adult solo toys for both men and women have soared.

The Gold Coast, Queensland, has risen way above the national average, with residents purchasing 78 percent more products than in March 2019.
The Central Western Queensland area was up 72 percent from March last year, with Birdsville as the primary target.

Residents of the downtown area have increased their adult toy purchases by 69 percent. Footscray in Melbourne came in second with a 67 percent increase.
Residents of Geelong have been bored with self-isolation by purchasing 61 percent more sex toys than the year before.
Newcastle, NSW, came in sixth with a 59 percent increase in sales, followed by Canberra (54 percent), Huntingdale in Perth (54 percent), Redland Bay in Brisbane (49 percent), and Hobart (48 percent) cents.
The Hot Spot owner Justin Easterbrook said that ‘cleaner sex toy stocks can only last a few weeks before they are completely exhausted.’
