Holly Willoughby is to star in a new ITV version of the iconic 90s challenge show You Bet! alongside her Dancing On Ice co-host Stephen Mulhern.

Previously presented by Darren Day, as well as the late Bruce Forsyth and Matthew Kelly, the much-loved show will return to ITV1 and ITVX with two action-packed primetime event specials this autumn.

As the classic show is revived, audience members will use their unique skills to perform the most outrageous challenges imaginable, all for the chance to win a huge cash prize.

The last episode of You Bet! aired in 1997 and follows the return of Gladiators, Survivor, Wheel Of Fortune and Deal Or No Deal.

But as another game show prepares to return, MailOnline takes a look at other nostalgic game shows we’d like to see again.

Fort Boyard

Fort Boyard, based on the French pageant of the same name, ran from October 1998 to Christmas Eve 2001.

It was hosted by Melinda Messenger until its final episode in 2001, before being briefly revived in 2003 as Fort Boyard: Takes On The World with Jodie Penfold.

Filmed at the fort off the west coast of France, the show adopted a similar concept to The Crystal Maze, with contestants completing challenges to win cash prizes.

The tricky missions saw contestants search for keys in an attempt to open the Treasure Room, coming face to face with dirt as they battled giant seesaws, climbed ropes and wrestled a strong woman through the mud to retrieve the keys.

Leslie Grantham played Boyard, who sets the challenges, while Geoffrey Bayldon took on the role of The Professor, a prisoner at the Watch Tower who gives riddles to the contestants.

Raven

Raven was a children’s adventure game show that ran on CBBC from 2002 to 2010, with nine series and three spin-offs filmed.

Hosted by Scottish actor James Mackenzie, six children, referred to as “warriors”, would face a series of tasks losing lives along the way.

Warlord Raven guides the contestants through each task, shape-shifting from raven to human and reading their minds.

Losing a challenge meant losing a life, represented by a feather on their flag, once all their lives were lost they would be eliminated from the program.

The tasks tested the children’s strength, agility and teamwork as they battled obstacles such as swinging rocks, built rafts and answered riddles.

Supermarket sweep

Supermarket Sweep was a popular grocery-based game show that aired for several years, from 1965 to 2022.

The goal was to answer questions and pass various tests to win the grand prize.

Originally presented by the late Dale Winton, it ran for exactly 8 years, from September 1993 to September 2001, and was then revived from February to August 2007 on ITV.

Rylan Clark-Neal took over hosting the show in 2019.

The game consists of three teams of two, each with a clock that starts at 60 seconds.

Teams then try to add as much time as possible to their clock by answering questions and riddles posed by the host.

The time they accumulate determines how long they have in the ‘Big Sweep’ round to run around a studio model of a supermarket, collecting shopping items.

The team with the shopping cart full of the highest value items wins the chance to participate in the final ‘Super Sweep’ prize round.

Originally presented by the late Dale Winton, it aired for exactly 8 years, from 6 September 1993 to 6 September 2001, and was then revived from 12 February to 31 August 2007 on ITV.

Are you smarter than a ten-year-old?

Are You Smarter Than a 10 Year Old? is a British quiz show that aired on Sky 1 from 2007 to 2010.

The show was based on the American game show “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?”

There were two editions, one broadcast weekly in prime time, hosted by Noel Edmonds and a daily version, originally hosted by Dick and Dom and later by Damian Williams.

The show welcomes adult contestants, who attempt to answer ten questions taken from primary school textbooks.

Each correct answer increases the amount of money the player can win; a maximum cash prize of £250,000 (or £500,000 in season three) can be won in primetime and £50,000 in daytime.

Treasure hunt

Treasure Hunt is a British game show, based on the format of the French game show La Chasse au Trésor, created by Jacques Antoine.

It ran on Channel 4 between December 1982 and May 1989 and was revived on BBC Two between December 2002 and August 2003.

A team of two contestants in the studio had to use a library of maps and reference materials to solve up to five clues and communicate instructions via radio link to a skyrunner who had access to a helicopter.

Contestants won a cash jackpot every time they solved a clue correctly, and everything was done against the clock.

In the original version, the presenter was former BBC news presenter Kenneth Kendall and the ‘skyrunner’ was broadcaster Anneka Rice.
