Arthur comes to an end after a four-episode debut of the 25th season in February

PBS Kids’ long-running animated series Arthur comes to an end in February with something fans have never seen before: Arthur and his friends as adults.

PBS announced Tuesday that the show is celebrating its 25th anniversary with an epic marathon of more than 250 episodes and movie specials all broadcasting back-to-back, 24/7 from Feb. 16 to Feb. 21.

The marathon concludes with the final four episodes of the show, in which Arthur and his friends are all grown up.

The press release teased that the final four episodes “culminate in a highly anticipated ending that offers a glimpse of what lies ahead for these beloved characters.”

The final episode is literally titled ‘All Grown Up’, with the episode’s description as follows: ‘the gang finds a fortune telling and gets a sense of what their future might hold.’

The final episodes will also feature Arthur and his friends, “solve a mystery, watch a silent movie, discover what it’s like to be a reporter, learn how to help a grieving friend, go on a family vacation.”

“For more than 25 years, Arthur and his friends have been helping viewers learn and grow through their real-life experiences,” said Sara DeWitt, Senior Vice President and General Manager, PBS KIDS, in a statement.

“We can’t wait to debut these episodes and introduce new Arthurian content that gives fans more ways to interact with their favorite Aardvark,” she concluded.

As the show draws to a close with the four new episodes, there will be “new Arthurian content,” such as “a podcast, short videos covering current and engaging topics, and digital games.”

The interactive Arthur games will be launched on PBSKids.org and the PBS KIDS Games app.

The podcast comes from GBH Kids and Gen-Z Media, who will “utilize Arthur’s incomparable library of stories, favorite characters and heartfelt moments that resonated strongly with audiences to create engaging audio content that will reach existing fans, as well as help introducing a new generation to the series and some of its classic storylines.”

This podcast will be available on podcast streaming platforms and on PBSKids.org.

Launched in 1996, Arthur is the longest-running children’s animated series on television, known for ‘teaching kindness, empathy and inclusion through everyday adventures and many groundbreaking moments’.

The series is based on Marc Brown’s Arthur Adventure book series, which has sold more than 65 million copies in the United States.

Brown, who is releasing a new book on Jan. 25 entitled Believe in Yourself: What We Learned from Arthur, also spoke about the long-running show in a statement.

“It’s amazing that what started as a simple bedtime story for my son eventually grew into over a hundred books and a collaboration with GBH and PBS KIDS that would last 25 years,” said Brown.

Now more than ever, the last line of my first book rings true: ‘There’s a lot more to Arthur than his nose,’ Brown added.

The marathon will begin on February 16 at 9:00 AM EST and will run through February 21 at 5:00 PM EST, with the four brand new episodes airing on PBS stations and streaming for free on PBS KIDS on February 21.
