Arsenal legend Arsene Wenger was at Manchester City on Thursday to present six players with their FIFA FIFPRO Men’s World 11 awards.

Unsurprisingly, Pep Guardiola’s side dominated the team after their heroic treble victory last season.

More than 28,000 professional footballers voted on who should be included, with six Manchester City stars and three England players making the team.

Wenger, who won three league titles with Manchester City rivals Arsenal, presented awards to Erling Haaland, Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva and John Stones on Thursday.

Ruben Dias and Kyle Walker were also part of the XI, but had already received their awards at The Best FIFA Football Awards in January.

Wenger, FIFA’s head of global football, said: “Manchester City had an incredible season, they were the dominant team at the national and European level.

“No wonder, most of the top eleven players in the world were from there, so we are pleased to recognize that with these awards. But all the players and all the coaches have done a fantastic job.

“It just acknowledges that they’ve been at their best; last year they combined efficiency with athleticism, it was really good to see them.”

“Of course, they capped the year by winning the FIFA Club World Cup in Jeddah. They were the top team in the competition and that was a consequence of the success they had before.

“The club’s facilities are excellent, they want to create the best possible environment for the players and that is what they have, they also add quality to quality and in the end it is worth it.”

Jude Bellingham was the only non-Manchester City defender or midfielder to make the XI, thanks to his excellent season at Borussia Dortmund.

His Real Madrid teammates, Thibaut Courtois and Vinicius Jnr, made the selection, while Kylian Mbappé and Lionel Messi completed the team.

Messi’s place in the team meant he extended his record number of inclusions to a staggering 17.

The Inter Miami star also won the Ballon d’Or and the FIFA Best Player award, largely thanks to his role in helping Argentina win the World Cup midway through last season.

Man City turn their attention to a mammoth top-of-the-table tie against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

Guardiola’s side could go top with a win, in what will be Guardiola’s final Premier League encounter under outgoing Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.
