- This season, he is a long way from scoring only 13 goals for Arsenal so far
- Manager Mikel Arteta says Arsenal should see an improved form from their striker
- He added that Aubameyang’s teammates also have a role to play
Mikel Arteta admits Arsenal needs a ‘different’ Pierre Emerick Aubameyang to reach their goals this season, but insists his teammates also have a role to play.
Captain Aubameyang has scored 13 goals this season, falling far short of his 29th and 31st total in his last two full seasons at Arsenal.
Arsenal’s inconsistency as a team was one of the factors that did not contribute to the cause of their influential talisman this season and manager Arteta said: possible chance to get to the top.
Mikel Arteta has admitted that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang needs to improve his goal form
The Gunners forward has only found the back of the net 13 times this season
‘It is not what it has been in recent years and it is a factor contributed by many things the team has to do on the field. It’s not just his thing.
“But it is clear that we need Auba in a different form in the next games to give us the best chance to finish where we want to end the season, that is clear.”
On a personal level, Aubameyang’s campaign has been disrupted by a few injuries, he understandably took the time to look after his ailing mother in January and was dropped from Arsenal’s last home game, the North London derby, after arriving late.
Aubameyang is well away from the 29 and 31 goals he has scored in his previous two full seasons
While Arteta has suggested that any change in his form may have to do with Aubemayang signing a new contract worth around £ 350,000 a week ahead of the season, Arteta has firmly rejected it.
He said, ‘It’s easy to connect things like that, but I’m not suspicious of that. I’ve seen, and we’ve had a lot of conversations, about what he wanted to do from last year’s point of view for his near future in the next two years, and he was very ambitious about that.
‘It is very complicated to maintain that level, but he is doing his best, he is doing his best. That’s what he aims to do. ‘
