Lucas Torreira’s mother, Viviana Di Pascua, has reportedly died from Uruguay after a fight with Covid.
Torreira’s 53-year-old mother was recently admitted to intensive care after contracting the virus in Uruguay – according to Ovation
The Arsenal midfielder received special permission from Atletico Madrid, where he is currently on loan, to fly to Frey Bentos to see his mother after hearing she tested positive.

Torreira’s 53-year-old mother was admitted to intensive care after contracting the virus
Viviana spent several days in intensive care in the city of Salto, but her situation worsened and her tragic death was confirmed on Tuesday.
Local media in Uruguay reported that Torreira and his family had stayed at a hotel in Salto to be close to Viviana.
Torreira self-tested positive for Covid in November 2020 after international service with Uruguay.
There was an outbreak of the virus in the Uruguay camp at the time, with the 25-year-old midfielder being the 12th person of both players and staff to sign Covid.
The Uruguayan star is currently playing his football on loan to Arsenal’s Atletico Madrid
Torreira had to miss three games for Atletico Madrid, including a crunch clash against Barcelona, after returning from international service.
Torreira came on loan to Arsenal’s Atletico last summer looking for regular time after struggling for minutes under Mikel Arteta.
The midfielder, who became a fan favorite for his brilliant early performance at Arsenal under Unai Emery before falling into the pecking order, played 22 times in all competitions for Atletico this season.
