Pep Guardiola admitted he understands Manchester City fans’ anger after a further rise in season ticket prices – but insisted they will stick with them against Arsenal this weekend.

Like most of their Premier League rivals, City have already announced increases of up to 10 per cent ahead of next season, sparking fury from fans who fear they are being priced out.

Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester United are rising, and Chelsea and Liverpool fans fear the same.

Guardiola said the mood of fan disillusionment will have no bearing on Sunday’s title clash against Mikel Arteta’s side as City aim to overtake the Gunners.

“Absolutely (I understand it),” Guardiola said. ‘The people will support us unconditionally. The team is the team, it does not get involved, it respects all opinions. I know it’s a sensitive topic but they will be with us on Sunday.

City will be without Kyle Walker and John Stones after both suffered injuries while on international duty with England over the past week.

Guardiola refused to be swayed by Gareth Southgate’s decision to start Stones twice in a matter of days and suggested the internationals could derail their momentum in the quest for an unprecedented fourth consecutive league title.

“We played very well the last month, but the international break, the first game after that is always… do you think what will happen?” added the Catalan. ‘Yesterday we trained well and we have two more training sessions and we will be ready for it again.

‘Arsenal controls many aspects of the game and is getting better and better. When you have consistency in ideas and the same manager, you always improve. If you change coaches and players, it is more difficult.
