Manchester United have reportedly made a big call on Mason Greenwood’s future after talks with loan club Getafe.

Getafe have been keen to tie Greenwood down to another loan after his haul of eight goals and five assists.

The accuser, 22, was charged with attempted rape, assault and battery and coercive behavior in October 2022, but the charges and the case were dropped in February 2023 when key witnesses recanted.

He has become a popular figure at Getafe and his performances have caught the eye of Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, who are prepared to battle for his signature. Mail Sport understands that the latter is following him particularly closely.

After sitting out with Getafe, United bosses have called up whether to loan him back to the club, according to The sun.

The answer?

A resounding no.

The Red Devils do not want to let him leave temporarily again and are only focused on securing a permanent deal worth around £34m.

There is also the possibility of him returning to Old Trafford.

New co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe last month left the door open for Greenwood’s return – despite the club’s previous indication that he would not play for them again.

He said: ‘It is a new decision. I can talk about the principle. I don’t want to talk about Mason. I am familiar with it. The principle is the most important. We will have other problems in the future.

‘You are dealing with young people who are not always brought up in the best circumstances, who have a lot of money and they don’t always have the guidance they should have.

– What we have to do when we have such problems is to understand that it really does not affect the hype, then we have to make a fair decision in the light of the club’s values. That’s what we have to do and that’s how we’re going to handle it.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has opened the door for him to return, but United are focused on trying to find a £34million deal.

– We have to look at the facts, judge fairly and take into account what the club’s values are. Then we will come out with a decision. It is not appropriate for me to comment on Mason Greenwood.’

Greenwood reportedly has ‘no great desire’ to return to United.

According to AthleticsGreenwood has heard Ratcliffe’s claims but remains ‘reluctant to accept a return’ and feels the club ‘could have supported him better’ in his case.
