Fofana arrived at Lens from Udinese in 2020 for around £8.5million, with the French club now going to demand around four times that price to lure him away.

According to L’Equipe, Newcastle are also up for the £34m-rated midfielder’s signature.

The dynamic Ivory Coast international is no stranger to clubs in England who spent time with Manchester City as a youngster and also enjoyed a loan spell at Fulham in 2014-15.

Fofana had a stellar season in Ligue 1 last season, scoring eight goals and providing three assists as Lens finished seventh.

Despite the club’s interest in Fofana, they see Raphinha and Lisandro Martinez as priorities this summer and will try to complete them first.

They will also likely have to sell players before they can bring in others on top of the ones they have prioritized.

Meanwhile, the announcement of Jesus’ move to Arsenal is imminent after it was announced on Sunday that an agreement had been reached between the player and the club.

Arsenal and Manchester City had previously agreed a fee of around £45million, with talks subsequently taking place between the player and the north London club. It was thought to be a formality, with Jesus always eager to reconnect with former coach Mikel Arteta.

The two know each other from Arteta’s time as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City, with Jesus speaking on record earlier about his admiration for the Arsenal boss.
