Arnold Schwarzenegger scores to star in his first movie in four years with the prison escape thriller Breakout

Before his first-ever television role, former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed on to star in his first movie in four years, Breakout.

International sales will be handled by financial firm Anton, and the Austrian-born, 75-year-old prison escape thriller, which begins production this year in Eastern Europe, will be distributed domestically by UTA Independent Film Group.

In it, Arnold plays the main character Terry Reynolds, who is trying to save his wife Daniel after he is framed and sentenced to 25 years in prison in a foreign country.

Scott Wu (6 Below, Need for Speed) will direct Breakout, which was penned by screenwriters Richard D’Ovidio (Hypnotic, The Blacklist) and Nicole D’Ovidio (The Call).

“We’re proud to be on board to bring Scott’s vision to life with the legendary Arnold Schwarzenegger at the helm,” said actor Anton Sebastien Ripaud. Delivery time on monday.

“This is the perfect choice for Anton List to continue bringing quality entertainment at scale to the global marketplace.”

The 52-year-old director’s $100 million movie The Expendables 4 – out in US/UK theaters September 22 – stars Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Megan Fox and Curtis 50 Cent Jackson , and Echo Oys.

“We couldn’t be more excited to be working with Scott, fresh off the long-awaited Expendables 4, which is going to be huge,” producer Jeff Elliott told the site.

“Pair that with Arnold, arguably the greatest action star in movie history, and this is going to be a hugely interesting ride for fans all over the world.”

Schwarzenegger hasn’t outgrown the silver screen since playing aging T-800 Carl in Tim Miller’s 2019 sci-fi flick Terminator: Dark Fate, which earned just $261.1 million at the global box office after having a budget of $196 million.

The Golden Globe winner will next play CIA operative Luke Santora in Nick Santora’s eight-episode father-daughter spy series FUBAR (F*** ed Up Beyond All Repair / Recognition), which premieres May 25 on Netflix.

FUBAR also features Monica Barbaro, Jay Baruchel, Fortune Phimster, Gabriel Luna, Scott Thompson, Adam Paley, and Tom Arnold.
