- LISTEN NOW: Manchester City correspondent Jack Gaughan joins It’s all starting! to explain if Pep Guardiola will have money to spend in January
Arne Slot has sent a thinly veiled jibe at rivals Manchester City after their 2-0 win over Pep Guardiola’s side on Sunday by answering questions about Mohamed Salah.
The Reds inflicted a resounding defeat on their Premier League title rivals at Anfield on Sunday to move nine points clear of second-placed Arsenal at the top of the table and 11 ahead of Manchester City.
Salah starred for the Reds with a goal and an assist in the match, further increasing the pressure on Liverpool as the Egyptian superstar is currently out of contract at the end of the season.
He had previously spoken about the situation after the victory against Southampton, stating that “I’m probably more out than in.”
After his starring role against City, he fanned the flames further by hinting that it could be “City’s last game playing for Liverpool” at home, raising further questions over the striker’s future at Anfield.
Slot, however, evaded the complicated line of inquiry and instead took aim at his title rivals and the 115 charges of breaching financial regulations that City currently face.
Arne Slot dodged an uncomfortable question about Mohamed Salah with a ‘joke’ directed at Manchester City
When asked if Salah’s comments were “part of a dance” that ends with the player signing and committing his future to the Anfield club, Slot laughed before giving his response.
“Maybe Mo knows more about the 115 accusations, so he hopes they won’t be in the Premier League next season!” he said, chuckling, “I hope they’ll be in the Premier League.”
‘No, the boring answer is always the same: this is not the place to talk about Mo’s contract. Maybe I’ve already said too much about the joke I made, which will probably make the headlines.
‘It was a joke, I repeat it was a joke!’
