Arizona State running back Cam Skattebo blamed a dodgy croissant sandwich after vomiting on the sideline during this week’s Peach Bowl.

But the 22-year-old claimed the sickening act was the spark that allowed him to inspire a remarkable Sun Devils comeback against Texas.

Arizona State lost an overtime thriller 39-31 despite fourth-quarter heroics from Skattebo, who finished fifth in last month’s Heisman Trophy voting.

The running back threw a touchdown and ran for two more scores just minutes after “vomiting profusely” on the bench.

‘I didn’t feel well before the game, until I vomited… I felt like a completely different person. “After that, the game changed for me.”

Midway through the fourth quarter, Skattebo and Arizona finally managed to get their first touchdown on the board.

On fourth-and-2 from the Texas 42-yard line, Skattebo made a throw and then threw a pass to Malik McClain.

The Sun Devils then secured the two-point conversion to bring the score to 24-16 with 6:31 remaining.

That was not the end of his heroic acts. After an interception by Quinn Ewers, Skattebo caught a 62-yard pass from Sam Leavitt.

He then concluded the drive by driving into the end zone to cut the lead to 24-22 before tying the game by scoring the two-point conversion.

Skattebo also put his team ahead with a three-yard touchdown run to start overtime against No. 4 Texas.

He finished with two rushing touchdowns and eight receptions for 99 yards.

However, the Sun Devils couldn’t hold on to pull off an upset over the Longhorns when an interception by Andrew Makuba finally ended a Peach Bowl quarterfinal classic in double overtime.

Arizona was on the verge of winning when Texas faced fourth-and-13 on its first possession in overtime.

But Quinn Ewers found Matthew Golden breaking free behind two defenders for a 28-yard touchdown.

After moving to the opposite end of Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Ewers threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Gunnar Helms on the next play, followed by a two-point conversion pass to Golden.

The Longhorns finally defeated Arizona State (11-3) when Makuba intercepted Sam Leavitt’s pass at the 3-yard line to end the game.
