So much for being sober as a judge.
Yavapai County Superior Court Judge Celé Hancock faces four counts of suspicion of DUI, including “Super Extreme DUI.”
Police in Prescott, Ariz., said Hancock recorded readings of .219 and .214 (nearly three times the legal limit of .08) on breathalyzer tests administered when she was pulled over following a traffic stop at 4:13 p.m. . A reading of .15 constitutes Super Extreme DUI.
Hancock, who was elected to the position in 2010, has practiced law in Arizona for 27 years, a CBS affiliate The Arizona family reported. She seemed sober enough to understand that she was in deep trouble when she reportedly agreed to two more field sobriety tests after a field test determined she was drunk.
“Sure, it doesn’t matter,” she said. “My career is already over.”
( Drunk driver who tested 9 times the legal limit, believed to be a record, will spend more than a year in prison )
The Yavapai County Superior Court issued a statement saying it would gather “as much information as possible” about Hancock’s arrest. He eventually told the police that he wanted to see a lawyer.
Police reportedly encountered the judge while responding to a report of an intoxicated woman stumbling into a Safeway grocery store. As she drove her Toyota 4Runner out of the parking lot and onto Montezuma Street, officers made a move on her.
“Umm…I’m going to go back to Safeway to get my wallet,” he drawled.
Police said Hancock tried to explain that he was at Safeway picking up seizure medication. The judge was summoned and released after a successful blood draw.
his father is a retired judgeaccording to the legal site Driving, which reports that Hancock began his legal career as a Maricopa County prosecutor. The University of Arizona grad also worked with the FBI.
