What To Do When Apple Watch Touch Screen Does Not Respond

Buying iPad, iPhone or Apple Watch means accessing the most advanced features and functionalities. An Apple Watch comes with features, functions and apps that you can use to track your health and activities. You can take calls and read and respond to messages. Whether you have an Apple Watch, iPhone or iPad, both the software and hardware of your device are stable.

However, depending on the age, how you use it and a few other factors, the watch may stop responding to touch. In this article, you will learn about the causes of this problem. So, let’s fix it. Keep in mind that if the screen is physically damaged, you cannot repair it on your own. Find the nearest Apple repair centre and get it replaced. You can avoid physical damage to the screen by using an Apple Watch glass screen protector. In case there is no sign of physical damage on the screen, you can try these tips.

Update watchOS

An Apple Watch comes with its own operating system. Apple develops watchOS for its watches. Sometimes the touch screen stops working because there is some issue with the operating system. This is not a common issue. However, when this happens, you cannot perform most of the tasks.

One of the easiest ways to fix this problem is updating watchOS. Take the following steps:

  1. Connect the device to the charger
  2. Unlock your iPhone and launch the Apple Watch app
  3. Tap My Watch tab
  4. General
  5. Software Update

The iPhone will start downloading the update and it will be installed on the watch.

Unpair and Pair Again

You can pair one Apple device with another. For example, you can pair your Apple Watch and iPhone. Both work seamlessly. Pairing your Apple Watch with your iPhone allows you to access more features. You can control your Apple Watch from your iPhone. When this pairing does not work, the screen may stop working. The solution is simple. Unpair both devices and pair them again. Take the following steps:

  1. The iPhone and Apple Watch must be within the range
  2. Unlock your iPhone and launch the Apple Watch app
  3. My Watch
  4. Watch
  5. “i” next to the misbehaving watch
  6. Unpair Apple Watch
  7. Go to Apple Watch app’s main screen
  8. Put on the watch
  9. Follow instructions on the screen

Close All Apps

You can access various features using built-in and third-party apps on your watch. However, these apps consume resources. Running too many apps can cause this problem. Closing all the apps can fix this problem. You can also remove some third-party apps. Take the following steps to close all apps:

  1. Unlock your Apple Watch
  2. Pressing the side button gives you the list of all the apps running on the watch
  3. Place a finger on an app and swipe right
  4. Remove

Restart the watch

It can be a temporary issue. Temporary software glitches can cause temporary issues. Restarting the device is most likely to fix this issue. This quick, easy and basic action can fix many other temporary issues. This will not cause any other issues with your Apple Watch.

Take the following steps to restart your Apple Watch:

  1. Hold the watch’s side button
  2. Power Off
  3. Press and hold the same button

Hard Reset

When the touch screen is not working, you may not be able to turn off the device. You can use another method to force reboot. However, use this method only when no other method works. This method is not recommended by the brand. Even when the touch screen does not respond, force rebooting works.

Press and hold both the Digital Crown and Side buttons and you see the Apple logo.
