Apple today announced the new Apple Watch Series 5, with the only thing many have wanted since the launch of the Apple Watch: an always-visible display. In addition to the new screen, the Series 5 adds a new option for titanium finishing, as well as the ceramic option that was available on earlier models but disappeared for the Series 4 last year.
Apart from the new always-on screen and optional finishes, the Series 5 is a death signal for the Series 4, with the same dimensions of 40 and 44 mm, the same screen with rounded corners and the same Digital Crown with the possibility to take EKG measurements measure.
Of course, the ability to always see the time without making a complicated arm gesture is a big problem, and it finally makes the Apple Watch a competent timepiece. It works exactly as you would expect – you can always see the entire dial with a dimmer brightness and then with full brightness when you lift your wrist. The watchfaces can even display all their complications and data in Always-on mode.
The Series 5 Apple Watch can be ordered from today and will be available in stores from September 20. We have more impressions to share, including the influence of the always active display on the battery life, in our upcoming review.
