Apple has its list of this year’s best podcasts, which yielded some surprising results.

“The Joe Rogan Experience,” hosted by comedian Joe Rogan and often considered the world’s most popular podcast, lost to the New York Times’ “The Daily.”

Although Rogan failed to get the gold on the Apple platform, his interview with now President-elect Donald Trump was the second most listened to episode on the Apple platform. It was also the fifth most shared.

The episode has been viewed more than 50 million times on YouTube.

Apple operates one of the largest podcast platforms in the world, and 2024 marks the first year that Rogan’s show returned to Apple Podcasts after his exclusive deal with Spotify expired.

First on Apple’s list was the ‘The Everyday,” hosted by Times reporters Michael Barbaro and Sabrina Tavernise.

The show, which is average three million daily listenerscovers a wide range of topics, but usually focuses on the biggest news story that broke the day before.

The final two episodes dissected former Congressman Matt Gaetz, withdrawing his name as the next Attorney General and convicting Jose Ibarra, the illegal immigrant who killed Laken Riley.

Each episode lasts between 20 and 30 minutes and airs five days a week.

Perhaps even more shocking is the fact that Rogan’s podcast was also behind the true-crime podcast ‘Crime Junkie’, which is hosted by Ashley Flowers and Briton Prawat.

‘Crime Junkie’ is a weekly podcast that covers popular crime cases in a relaxed, conversational style.

Flowers and Prawat delve into solved and unsolved murders, missing people, mysterious deaths and more.

The duo’s final episode was an analysis of the murder of JonBenét Ramsey, a six-year-old child pageant star.

Her 1996 murder in her childhood home remains one of the most infamous unsolved murders in American history.

‘Crime Junkie’ was the eighth most popular podcast on Spotify this year with more than 1.5 billion downloads. Rogan’s podcast was the number one show on Spotify, also beating 11th place ‘The Daily’.

The Tucker Carlson Show, the fourth most popular podcast on Spotify, was the number one news show on Apple Podcasts.

Serial, now in its 13th season, was the top series on Apple.

The first season of the show was released in October 2014 and unraveled the case of Adnan Syed, who was convicted of murdering his ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee in 1999.

It is largely credited with raising awareness about the case and led to Syed’s release in 2022.
