Apple celebrates Pride Month with two new bands for the Apple Watch
In an exclusive announcement in Out magazine, Apple introduced two new Apple Watch Sport Loop bands that celebrate the rainbow colors of the Progress flag and are available for purchase today on Apple.com.
The Apple Watch Pride Edition Sport Loop is a lightweight band with colored stripes designed to show the colors of the Progress flag, including trans, Latino, and African American. It has the word “Pride” woven into the back of the strap in iMac “Hello” style script with “a three-dimensional look, thanks to a new technique in which multiple layers of the woven nylon textile loops were removed” .
A Nike Sport Loop Pride Edition will also be released, which replaces the black with white lines and does not include the word “Pride”. The band’s dark colors “promote LGBTQ+ inclusion and equality in sports.”
The watch face includes “digital images [reflecting] the woven bands of the Sport Loop, which move when the wearer raises their wrist, touches their face or turns the digital crown.” It will be available on all Apple Watch Series 4 or later devices running watchOS 8.6.
Apple is also running a new Shot on iPhone Pride campaign that will “showcase images from an illustrious group of intersectional creatives, celebrating today’s queer trailblazers in places of historical significance to the LGBTQ+ movement.” Apple began making Pride bands in 2016 for employees and began selling them in 2017.
The Pride Edition Sport Loop and the Nike Pride Edition Sport Loop are available for $49 at apple.com and will be available in Apple Stores starting May 26.
