Apple & # 039; s & # 039; budget & # 039; The iPhone XR is not shipped until October, more than one month after the XS and XS Max

If you want to have the iPhone XR in your hands

Apple's high-end iPhone XS and XS Max officially went on sale on Friday, and the XS Max was sold in just 30 minutes after orders opened.

But if you want to get your hands on Apple's "economic" iPhone XR, you'll have to wait a little longer.

The pre-orders for the $ 749 iPhone XR begin on October 19 and the device will not hit the shelves until October 26.

That's more than a month after the iPhone XS and XS Max went on sale.

It goes against Apple's typical strategy of launching higher capacity devices at a later date.

In 2017, Apple's iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus were available long before the highly anticipated 10th anniversary of the iPhone X, which went on sale more than a month later.

This was largely the result of the advanced components of the iPhone X, such as the OLED display, which initially faced supply constraints, as manufacturers struggled to match production levels with Apple's scale.

Now, it seems that Apple's suppliers are struggling to increase the production of LCD screens.

Apple's iPhone XS and XS Max have OLED displays, while the iPhone XR is the only model to feature a Liquid Retina LCD display.

The reports came several months ago that speculated that Apple could face problems of LCD supply, since its supplier Japan Display had low performance in the manufacture of the technology, according to Verge.

But it can be more complicated than that.

"Everything we've been hearing has been a problem on the software side," said Verge Ryan Reith, vice president of mobile device research at IDC.

& # 39; There is a lot of software involved with the LCD screen, since it is the first [LCD display] with a notch and full screen.

"Apple could not have enough of these screens, it has run into last-minute problems with the contact's manufacturer," he added.

The iPhone manufacturer had to alter the LCD screen through software engineering to get the correct images, Reith said.

Facing a one-month wait, some consumers could end up with the 6.5-inch XS Max, which is larger than the 6.1-inch XR. Either way, it's a win-win situation for Apple

However, some experts do not believe that the longer wait deterred price-sensitive consumers from buying the iPhone XR, since the difference in cost between it and the high-end XS and XS Max is significant.

"Apple has heard that there is a threshold for prices," said Canalys senior analyst Ben Stanton al Verge.

"They realize that there are many people who will not get that high." For the average consumer, the products will look the same from the outside … and this LCD device is a really attractive device. "

That said, in the face of a one-month wait, some consumers might end up jumping for the 6.5-inch XS Max, since it is larger than the 6.1-inch XR.

Either way, it's a win-win situation for Apple, since iPhone owners who are waiting for an update will end up buying a new device no matter what else.
