‘And because he talks a lot with’ [Luka] Modric, and thanks to him, I spoke to him and he told me, ‘You’re going to like it here, it’s the right step to do.’
“I’ve never heard anyone say anything bad about Madrid. I’m looking forward to getting started.’
The LaLiga giants confirmed Rudiger’s move from Chelsea to Real Madrid more than two weeks ago, but the German defender was absent from international duty, so a reveal had to be postponed.
When he returned from his international service, he went to the Madrid training complex to be presented to the media.
It has been revealed that Rudiger will wear the number 22 for Real Madrid, which will be released after Isco’s departure this summer.
The centre-back has agreed a four-year deal at the Bernabeu worth £315,000 a week
During the unveiling, Rudiger told reporters: “It’s a very special day for all of us, but especially for me.
“I want to thank my parents, because without them I wouldn’t be here. They have always supported me and that has been very important my whole life.
“I also want to thank the president of Real Madrid for giving me the opportunity to play for this great club. I can promise you that I will give everything for this club. I want to win as many titles as possible. Hala Madrid and nothing else!’
Rudiger’s contract with the LaLiga side will be worth around £315,000 a week and he will also come with a hefty signing fee.
It means the dazzling financial package is worth considerably more than the £230,000 a week deal Chelsea offered him to extend his five-year stay at Stamford Bridge.
Meanwhile, sources close to the deal have indicated that Rudiger’s release clause in Madrid will be €400m.
