Now, Sky Sports reporter Gianluca Di Marzio has said Conte would be interested in the Red Devils if they knocked.

However, he would turn down an offer from Arsenal, whose shares have fallen significantly in recent years, with Di Marzio saying Conte had similar reasons for rejecting Tottenham.

Spurs approached Conte this summer as one of several candidates to replace caretaker Ryan Mason, but the Italian turned down their offer.

“He would only accept a winning project,” said di Marzio. “So I don’t think he would accept Arsenal and that’s why he said no to Tottenham.

“I think he would only accept it if, for example, Manchester United called.”

Of course, any approach by Conte to Old Trafford would depend on the club sacking current manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
