Bill Maher has urged Democrats to abandon President Joe Biden following his disastrous performance in last week’s debate against Donald Trump.
The comedian and pundit wrote in an opinion piece for The New York Times that the first debate between Biden and Trump was like the worst episode of The Golden Bachelor of all time.
Maher also questioned Biden allies who claimed the president had a cold during the debate.
The Real Time host wrote: “If he had a cold, why did he go out campaigning the next morning instead of putting his 81-year-old body to bed?”
However, Maher said the debate was more of a blessing in disguise than a tragedy, because it opened the opportunity for the 81-year-old president to step aside before the Democratic convention.

“Democrats can no longer afford to suspend disbelief,” Maher wrote, adding that an open convention would be far more exciting than another Biden run.
“(Democrats) would have a contest, which is something Americans love,” Maher continued.
“Who will get the rose this August in Chicago? Gavin or Gretchen? Suddenly, Stacey Abrams might say she’s in the race! And so might Tim Ryan and Josh Shapiro! And Amy Klobuchar and Ruben Gallego! And Mayor Pete and Raphael Warnock! And Wes Moore, and who knows, maybe Andrew Yang will say he’s a Democrat again!”
Maher shared that his choice would be to govern Newsom in California, because “people are attracted to what looks like strength, much more than specific policies.” And it looks great on TV.”
The comedian also delved into the president’s disastrous debate in his opening monologue on his show Max, Real Time, on Friday.
Maher has regularly criticized Biden’s re-election chances, often stating that his age is the biggest problem.
In early June, Maher declared that Biden’s new immigration policy would cost him the presidency after he issued an executive action limiting the number of migrants who can arrive at the border and request asylum to 2,500 per day.
Maher said: “If Biden loses this election, it will be because of two things: he’s old… and immigration.”
Meanwhile, the Biden campaign has spent the days since the debate — where it appeared abrasive, wavering and at times gave complicated answers — working to keep donors and surrogates on board as Democrats increasingly questioned whether he should remain in the race. career.
At this point in the delegate process, Biden would likely have to decide to withdraw in order for there to be a new candidate. And the people he listens to the most in the world (his wife and his son) tell him to stay home.
