England and Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon has selflessly donated £10,000 to the victims of the harrowing knife attack in Southport which left three children dead and others seriously injured, and Steven Gerrard has pledged the same five-figure sum.

Merseyside-born Gordon pledged his financial support to the victims by donating a huge sum to a GoFundMe account that was set up and has now surpassed £60,000.

A 17-year-old boy has been charged with murder after three girls were stabbed to death at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in Southport on Monday.

The tragic victims of Monday’s attack were six-year-old Bebe King, seven-year-old Elsie Dot Stancombe and nine-year-old Alice Dasilva Aguiar.

Eight other children suffered stab wounds during the shocking attack, five of whom are in critical condition, as are two women who bravely tried to save them.

Gordon made the donation on Wednesday night, with his £10,000 sum being the largest ever received by the Southport Dance Group Emergency Fund, before Liverpool legend Gerrard donated the same amount.

The pair are the top donors on the page, with Gordon and Gerrard’s names appearing alongside two £10,000 donations, the latter following up with his own pledge a couple of hours later in the evening.

Former Liverpool and England captain Gerrard is a legend in the town and made his donation just a day after his former club paid their respects to him in Southport.

Robbie Fowler and Phil Thompson were present at the scene of the tragic incident and laid a wreath alongside Everton representatives as the two clubs came together to show their support.

Meanwhile, investigations continue to uncover a motive behind the attacker’s actions.

Chief Constable Serena Kennedy said in the wake of the teenager being charged with murder: ‘While these charges are an important milestone within this investigation, this remains an active investigation and we continue to work with our partners at Lancashire Constabulary and Counter Terrorism Policing North West (CTPNW) to ensure we have as full an understanding of this matter as possible.

‘I would like to thank all the forces that have offered and provided support to Merseyside Police over the last three days and can confirm that we are receiving support with investigative resources from across the North West.’

Sarah Hammond, Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS Mersey-Cheshire, said: ‘The Crown Prosecution Service has given Merseyside Police permission to charge a 17-year-old boy, from Banks, Lancashire, with three counts of murder and ten counts of attempted murder following the tragic incident which took place in Southport this week.

‘He will appear before Liverpool City Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 1 August 2024. We remind all concerned that criminal proceedings against the accused are active and that he is entitled to a fair trial.

‘It is extremely important that there is no reporting, commentary or exchange of information online that could in any way undermine these proceedings.

“Our thoughts are with the families of all those affected by these heartbreaking events.”
