Australian Idol’s Anthony Callea reveals he was drained of ‘shyness and embarrassment’ when he told his parents as gay: ‘I hated myself’

Anthony Callea revealed the gut struggle he experienced when he came to his parents.

Writing in his new memoir, Behind the Sound: Detro La Fosse, As Extracted Stellar Magazine The 40-year-old says he was ashamed when making the confession.

The Australian Idol star, who rose to fame in the competition’s second season, has revealed that he actually auditioned for the show’s first season in 2003, but ran away from the studio, consumed with anxiety.

That same night, he hides in a hotel room, horrified that he left his parents a note revealing he was gay before he set out to audition.

At this point, yes, I knew I was gay, but I couldn’t even say the word out loud. I couldn’t even look at myself in the mirror and say, “I’m gay.” The shame and embarrassment was too much and I hated myself.

Anthony’s parents were horrified by his disappearance, and when he finally returned home, he was met with tender understanding.

My father came and sat on the edge of the bed. He was so calm, and I was so sure that this bombshell that I had just dropped, the fact that I was gay, was going to make them disappointed in me.

Finally, he just said, ‘There’s nothing wrong with you, Anthony. You didn’t hurt anyone. You did nothing wrong. we love you. What can my mom and I do to help you? “

I can’t describe how this made me feel; It gives me goosebumps again.

He told fans via his website: “For some, ‘coming out’ is no big deal. For me it was.

Others say you should be true to yourself. Well, this is easier said than done.
