Anthony Albanese visited war-torn Ukraine just after the NATO summit to review the horrific damage done by Russian forces.

The prime minister was closely followed by security teams from Australia and Ukraine as he was escorted through Bucha, Irpin and Hostomel, northwest of Kiev.

Russian soldiers are accused of committing a long list of war crimes in the area involving several bloody… massacres of innocent civilians and systematic rapes.

Kiev Governor Oleksiy Kuleba wrote on Facebook on Sunday evening that Mr Albanian was “astonished” at the devastation he witnessed.

“He was amazed at what he saw: destroyed civilian houses, traces of mines, destroyed Antonov airport,” Kuleba wrote.
