- Anthony Albanese says he is “absolutely” not one to follow trends
- Nathan Brown said he felt ‘sick’ seeing the Prime Minister in the football changing rooms
- Albanese says Jeff Kennett can attest that he is a die-hard Hawks fan
Australian Prime Minister and die-hard Hawks fan Anthony Albanese has hit back at Footy Show host Nathan Brown over the Prime Minister’s decision to visit the Hawthorn dressing room.
Albanese was seen beaming in the sheds after the Hawks defeated the Western Bulldogs earlier this month in an elimination final.
Brown, who currently works as a commentator for Triple M and is one of the presenters of Nine’s Sunday Footy Show, was not at all happy about his presence there.
“I feel like the Prime Minister has gone into the Hawthorn rooms for his own good. It makes me sick,” Brown said in a Footy Show segment.
‘Anthony Albanese looked at the polls and thought Peter Dutton was coming, he was ahead and there was a gap. He thinks he has to look like an ordinary man. I’m going to the Hawthorn rooms.’
-Give up, Albo, nobody believes you.
Now the Prime Minister has hit back at Brown, explaining that it would be foolish for him to claim to be a Hawthorn supporter when the Swans are doing so well.
Anthony Albanese says he is “absolutely not” a fashion follower after being spotted at Hawthorne Sheds earlier this month.

“I say to Nathan Brown, mate, if you choose this year, when you’re from Sydney, not to say you’re a Swans supporter when they’ve been the favourites for the flag all year, when the Hawks started with five straight losses, then that would be a pretty silly thing to do,” he said in a clip shown on the Footy Show on Sunday morning.
The Premier said Jeff Kennett could confirm that he has been a staunch supporter of the Hawks for decades.
“I joined the Swans when they were part of ‘Save Our Swans’ when they were in trouble, but I always stayed loyal to the Hawks because you can’t change teams,” he said.
Mr Albanese went on to say that he was “not” at all a follower of the mainstream.

This comes after Channel 9 personality Tony Jones criticised the Prime Minister for appearing with the Hawks in the sheds during the regular season, singing the team song with the players.
“He’s not interested in the AFL. And there he was… with the scarf… just go away.
“Seriously, when will prime ministers learn to stay in their lane, and that’s usually in the House of Representatives?”
