SAS Australia will not return to screens in 2024.

Despite Channel Seven announcing a continuation of the series earlier this year, Daily Mail Australia can reveal that season five has not been commissioned.

The previous season, filmed in the rugged landscapes of Jordan, continued the show’s tradition of challenging locations, including the Snowy Mountains, the Capertee Valley and the Blue Mountains in New South Wales.

Given the scale of production, a new season would normally have to be well underway to hit screens before the end of the year.

Sources at Screentime, the production company behind SAS Australia, revealed that initial discussions have taken place regarding casting for the upcoming series.

However, negotiations between Channel Seven and Screentime failed, leaving the show’s future uncertain.

According to a knowledgeable source, rival network Channel Nine has since expressed interest in commissioning the series for next year.

“Channel Nine has shown interest in picking up the show for 2025,” the source added.

The decision to ax the show surprises many, especially given the strong performance of the 2023 final, which attracted 1.85 million viewers across Australia and on Seven’s streaming apps.

The popularity of the show and its loyal fan base make the cancellation even more unexpected.

SAS instructor and presenter Ant Middleton will return to screens for Seven’s Dancing with the Stars.

Middleton is understood to have surprised many with her competitive spirit in the dance competition, adding another layer to her dynamic TV personality.

Channel Seven has been contacted for comment.
