Anneka Rice has claimed she was ‘depressed’ and required three months of physio after suffering from ‘whiplash’ following her stint on Strictly Come Dancing.

The presenter, 62, starred in the 2019 series of the BBC show and was paired with Kevin Clifton. They were eliminated in week three.

And despite seemingly enjoying her experience, Anneka now claims she was in excruciating pain during her experience, admitting, “I didn’t expect to be this broken.”

Despite her career as an ‘action girl’ on TV shows such as Treasure Hunt on Channel 4 and the BBC series Challenge Anneka, the star said she was unprepared for the physical pain the dance show would cause her.

Talking about her injuries on the on My friend bought a toaster podcastshe explained, “I was so broken I stumbled home… into an icy bath. I think in general the experience is, in theory, so joyful that you forget about those things.

“It’s like giving birth, you just forget about it… but I went to the physio for three months after that because I had such severe whiplash in my neck from the last dance I did.”

The star shared how she was able to dance through the pain because of the ‘adrenaline rush’ she had.

She explained how things affected her after the show, saying, “I’d never really been seriously hurt in my life, given all the crazy stunts and things I’ve done.

“But it puts you very low, because of course I wondered if I would ever recover.”

She added: “I got pretty depressed after that. The little bit I didn’t expect was how broken I would be, for someone who is very fit.’

The TV star went on to say that injuries are just “part of it” and joked how she and partner Kevin, 38, had no preparation for the show.

She said, “There were loads of injuries. Jamie Laing injured his foot before we started.

Paralympian Will Bailey got into a routine that involved jumping off a table. . . so he was in the hospital.

“I think some partners do a lot of agility before you even start training, but we didn’t.”

Anneka added: ‘Kevin and I just had a sausage roll and went for it. You have so much adrenaline you don’t realize how injured you are.’

Meanwhile, the blonde beauty, who recently starred in the celebrity Great British Bake Off, also made a subtle swipe at celebrities who claim they have no previous dance experience.

She joked: ‘Everyone always says ‘oh, I can’t dance’ ‘and then miraculously they have their own tap shoes.’

Kevin and Anneka were eliminated from the competition in week three after failing to impress with their Kill Bill Charleston routine for Movie Week.

The pair lost in the dance-off to David James and his partner Nadiya Bychkova.
