Prince Henry is the spare grandson of the King of England, played by Stephen Fry, while Alex is the son of the American president, played by Uma Thurman.

The two protagonists initially despise each other, but a royal wedding forces them to come together for a round of media appearances.

While spending time together, the couple discovers how they feel about each other and embarks on a private romance.

Their affair is complicated by the fact that the social expectations of belonging to the British Royal Family prevent Henry from making his relationship with Alex public.

“Beyond the great love story, I think what interests me as an actor in general is people completely trapped by circumstance and upbringing,” Nicholas reflected. Outside while promoting the film last year.

“I’ve always liked characters who have to escape the limits of their upbringing in some way. It was a lot of fun,” added Nicholas, who is also from England.

Red, White and Royal Blue was based on the 2019 novel of the same name by Casey McQuiston, who is collaborating with Matthew Lopez on the sequel’s script.

The upcoming film will be comprised of newly designed material, as the book concludes at the same basic point as the original film.
