Michelle Obama has never expressed any interest in running for president, and this month her office made clear that it fully endorsed Joe Biden’s bid for re-election.
However, the idea that the former first lady could be plotting to parachute in as an alternative to the 81-year-old president and rescue the Democratic Party will not die.
Maybe until now.

Michelle Obama wouldn’t beat Donald Trump if she parachuted in to take the Democratic Party nomination, according to our exclusive survey of 1,000 likely voters.
Obama has ruled himself out as a presidential candidate, ending speculation that he would intervene at the last minute to give Democrats a better chance of beating Trump.
That is the same margin by which Biden loses.
“Some have long been touting an emergency parachute for Biden: the Michelle Obama project,” said pollster James Johnson, co-founder of JL Partners.
“But it turns out that voters are no more willing to vote for Michelle than for Trump than for Biden, and Trump beat her overall and even among independents.”
“It was never very realistic, but this poll shatters the idea that she can be any kind of saving force for Democrats.”
The idea has occasionally been touted by Democrats concerned about Biden’s advanced age and his ability to win a second election.
They believe his easy contact with voters, his star power and, at 60, his relative youth could prevent the White House from falling into Republican hands.
Obama herself added to the rumors in January when she admitted to being worried about the outcome of the 2024 election.
‘What is going to happen in these next elections? “I’m terrified of what could happen, because our leaders matter,” he told Jay Shetty on his ‘On Purpose’ podcast in January.
“Who we select, who speaks for us, who fills that pulpit, affects us in ways that sometimes I think people take for granted.”
The former first lady maintains star power within Democratic politics, despite largely stepping away from the political scene in recent years.
When all candidates in the survey are added up, the results show that Trump maintains his four-point lead over Joe Biden, with just over seven months until the Nov. 5 presidential election.
JL Partners surveyed 1,000 potential voters from March 20 to 24 via landline, mobile, SMS and apps. The results have a margin of error of +/- 3.1 percent.
The idea actually gained traction among right-wing pundits, who discussed his potential candidacy as a way to undermine Biden’s career.
Last month, he ranked first in a straw poll asking attendees at the Conservative Political Action Conference who they thought would run if Biden dropped out.
Nearly half of the 1,478 respondents (47 percent) said Obama, followed by California Governor Gavin Newsom at 32 percent and Vice President Kamala Harris at six percent.
Obama’s office was forced to intervene days later and quell the speculation.
“As former first lady Michelle Obama has expressed several times over the years, she will not run for president,” said Crystal Carson, communications director for her office. NBC News.
