Gary Murphy left a secure ward at Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney on Thursday under heavy security and was taken back to a cell in Long Bail prison.

Murphy was rotated from the hospital with handcuffs shortly after 11:30 am and was wearing a safety belt around his waist and placed in a white Hyundai iLoad bus.

Thin and gray, he refused to answer whether he had anything to say to Mrs. Cobby's family or how he thought he was likely to die in prison.

The 61-year-old was attacked by at least six prisoners in an attack that researchers believe was motivated by his heinous crimes 33 years ago.

Murphy, who had only been in Long Bay for one day when he was bashed, has told police and prison authorities that he just slept in the shower.

He was initially transferred to Darlinghurst & # 39; s St Vincent & # 39; s Hospital after the attack, but was relocated to Prince of Wales in Randwick four days later for further testing.

His prison sentence was investigated by police and prison authorities, but Murphy refused to cooperate in their investigations.

Murphy, who has been in maximum custody for 33 years, would stand in line for a further dose of & # 39; imprisonment & # 39; if he would name those who abused him.

Daily Mail Australia understands that prison officers have identified six men suspected of participating in the attack. Two were little thieves and two were pedophiles.

Murphy was transferred to Long Bay from Goulburn prison, where he has been detained since 2005, for medical treatment in Sydney.

It seems that his attackers knew that Murphy was being moved from Goulburn and were ready to bash him when he arrived.

Murphy was attacked in wing 10 of area 1 at the Metropolitan Special Programs Center (MSPC).

The MSPC is currently the home of convicted prisoners, including Michael Guider, the serial pedophile who killed the nine-year-old schoolgirl Samantha Knight in 1986.

Mohammed Skaf, one of a gang of young Lebanese-Australian men who committed a series of rapes in western Sydney in 2000, is also there.

Murphy, who had head and face wounds, was expected to return to Long Bay two days after his attack, but was hospitalized to undergo X-rays for injuries to his rib cage and lungs.

A spokesperson for the New South Wales Police said after the jail attack that Murphy was reportedly attacked shortly before 10 am on June 25.

He was taken to St Vincent in a serious but stable condition and then transferred to Prince of Wales, where he underwent further surgery on July 19.

A spokeswoman for the Corrective Services NSW said that five possible attackers were placed in segregation.

Mrs. Cobby's widower celebrated Murphy being jailed when the news was told.

John Cobby said he wanted to thank the prisoners in the attack and hoped they had broken many bones.

& # 39; I would like to know who they are so I can buy them a bottle of champagne, & # 39; said Mr. Cobby Daily telegram.

& # 39; I am not someone who gets hurt, but in this case I hope they have broken many bones. & # 39;

Mr. Cobby also rejoiced in February when Murphy Michael's brother died of cancer at the 65-year-old hospital in Long Bay.

& # 39; I hope it was painful for him, & # 39; he said. & # 39; One down, four more to go. & # 39;

In the night Mrs. Cobby was abducted, Travers, Murdoch and the Murphy brothers stole a car and got drunk in Doonside.

They then drove to Windsor in search of drugs. Michael Murphy later said the group needed money for gas and they saw Mrs. Cobby walking along the road.

& # 39; We were just going to grab her handbag until John (Travers) said, "Let's take her", & # 39; Gary Murphy claimed.

What followed was a pathogenic sequence of physical and sexual attacks.

Mrs. Cobby was repeatedly raped, beaten and kicked while she was still in the car and had a knife to her throat to stop her screams.

Her attackers stopped buying gas before they drove to Reen Road at Prospect, where the beauty queen was once dragged into a paddock by a barbed wire and raped again.

Travers cut her throat as Mrs. Cobby fought to stay alive. Her body was discovered naked and face down, with her eyes still open, two days later in the field.

The five killers were arrested within three weeks of the attack.

Gary, then 28, along with his brothers Michael (33) and Leslie (22) and Murdoch (19) and Travers (18) were convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment.

A confession by Travers, the leader of the group, was secretly recorded.

& # 39; We were all drunk and she had seen us all fucking. So I cut her, & Travers said.

Gary Murphy denied being present the night Mrs. Cobby was killed.

& # 39; I didn't rap, I didn't kill, I wasn't there, & # 39; he said during the trial.

In sentencing the killers, justice Alan Maxwell said: & # 39; This was a calculated murder in cold blood. & # 39;

& # 39; The circumstances of these prisoners and the circumstances of the murder of Anita Lorraine Cobby ask me to recommend that the official files of each prisoner are clearly marked: & # 39; Never be released & # 39 ;, he said.

Michael Murphy had been in a hospital before he died. Shortly before his death, he was asked if he would apologize to Mrs. Cobby's family.

& # 39; Why should I apologize to everyone f ** king while you leave me in this f ** king (hospital) room and treat me like that? & # 39; he answered.
