The US federal income tax is due April 18, and if you haven’t already, you have an exciting new option: Tax Heaven 3000an anime style visual novel/dating sim that will also help you file your tax returns.
Tax Heaven 3000 stars Iris, a pretty young woman who absolutely loves you and helps you prepare a US federal income tax return. It’s for single filers with no dependents, if you know what I mean. 😉 Tax Heaven 3000 seems to play like a standard dating sim, but you have to enter your social security number, which greatly increases the player’s trust in the beautiful Iris.
Developed by MSCHF – who also released Chair Simulator on Steam in 2021 – the creators describe what Tax Heaven 3000 is really all about in the product description:
Most rich countries make tax returns free, if the burden of preparation is shifted to individuals at all. But corporate tax filing services are (through extensive lobbying) predatory, parasitic bottlenecks that deliberately complicate the tax filing process to make it unnavigable for ordinary people.
And it works! The rogue corporation that controls the government from the shadows is an unfortunately commonplace reality. It’s the most boring industry imaginable.
Video games are ultimately pieces of software – ontologically related to Microsoft Word. Tax Heaven 3000 just the fiction makes the point. For some reason, the game-to-real-life interface tends to remain the scope of corporate metaverse fictions. Tax Heaven 3000 is a dongle that adapts from a visual novel to the IRS.
Worried about giving your SSN to someone other than the IRS, TurboTax, and/or various credit card companies? Do not worry, MSCHF is legit. You know them. They made Lil Nas X’s Satan Shoes. They made the Eat the rich popsicles (edible versions of Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, etc). They made the Large fruit loop. They even made them viral big red Astroboy boots.
Prices for Tax Heaven 3000 has not been announced, but given the message behind it (en Chair Simulator be free) expect it to cost nothing. Tax Heaven 3000 will be released on March 31 for Mac and Windows PC, giving US taxpayers just a few weeks to get to know Iris.
