Two mothers, Monica Johnson and Brandolyn Jones, have sued Marlin Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Darryl Henson for unfairly altering their children's grades.

Angry parents have filed a lawsuit against a Texas superintendent for allegedly changing their children’s grades.

Monica Johnson and Brandolyn Jones took matters into their own hands after claiming that Marlin Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Darryl Henson unfairly altered their children’s grades.

Johnson, the mother of Me’kia Mouling, who graduated from Marlin High School in 2023 and now attends Texas A&M University, said Henson’s move resulted in her daughter tying for valedictorian of her class.

Meanwhile, Jones, the mother of Praiyer and Addai Jones, said not only were their grades changed, but one of her children’s longtime teachers was suddenly replaced by a deceased man.

Jones has pulled her youngest son out of school because of his alleged dishonest behavior, but Johnson’s son still attends Marlin High School. She makes sure to keep a close eye on him because of Henson.

“He keeps retaliating because we’re suing him, it’s harassment. So, every day I’m scared of what he’s going to do,” Johnson said. KKXV.

“I check it weekly just to keep up; I don’t feel like I have to.”

Johnson explained that when her daughter Me’kia attended the controversial high school, Henson altered her grades just before graduation.

“Henson recalculated the grades and moved him to number 3,” his mother said.

The angry mother said the embattled superintendent eventually changed her daughter’s grades, but at the time, she and another student were tied for valedictorian.

Jones, whose oldest son, Praiyer, now attends the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, decided to remove her youngest son, Addai, from the school district because of alleged cheating at the hands of the superintendent.

She claims that Addai’s science teacher not only changed, but his grade dropped exponentially.

Brandlyn Jones, a mother of two children, Praiyer and Addai Jones, said not only were their grades changed, but one of her children's longtime teachers was suddenly replaced by a deceased man.

“And his science grade went from a B average to a 20,” he said.

‘What is even more shocking is that his real master, whom he had had for the entire year, had been replaced by a man who was dead.’

Although none of her children attend district schools anymore, Jones still wants Henson to pay for his actions.

“I want justice for Addai Jones and Praiyer Jones. I want my son to get his grades back,” Jones said.

Johnson, whose son still attends Marlin High School, said his ranking in the class of 2024 has dropped dramatically from 13th to 24th.

“I feel like he’s still retaliating against me because I’m in the process of suing,” she told the outlet.

“And not only is he retaliating, but now I feel like it’s harassment because my son still goes to school here.”

Both mothers filed a lawsuit against Henson earlier this year, documenting multiple claims, including First Amendment retaliation.

The angry mothers are suing for more than $1 million in damages.

This is not the first time the Texas school district has found itself in the spotlight, after Henson announced in 2023 that Marlin High School’s graduation ceremony would have to be postponed.

In a letter sent to parents and families, Henson said most seniors failed to get in due to low grades and poor attendance records.

District officials postponed the ceremony until June to give students time to catch up and hopefully meet the requirements needed to earn their diplomas.

“As a school district, we really want to make sure we’re making the best decision for the benefit of all children,” Henson said previously. KCEN News.

The postponement of the main ceremony comes after the district had already announced a four-day school week aimed at increasing attendance.

In 2020, Marlin ISD lost its official Texas accreditation after the district received an “F” grade for accountability in 2019.
