Angelina Jolie’s store, Atelier Jolie, opened last year.
And this month, the actress’s New York City store has been packed with classes on how to get creative with clothes.
On Thursday there will be a session on “upcycling”, that is, reusing old objects. On August 28 there will be a class called Experimental Drawing with Andrew Castrucci.
Before that, there was a class on underwear, “where you can learn how to create designer-inspired intimates.” And there was another meeting with Giancarlo Cipri on how to screen print and Mimi Plange on how to use appliqués through felt.
Jolie also held a conversation with artist Ferrari Sheppard.
The 6,600-square-foot, predominantly brown and beige space features a cozy cafe and art gallery. It’s located at 57 Great Jones Street, as if it’s open Tuesday through Saturday.
“The place is very lively and has a very classy atmosphere. I like being there, it’s amazing,” said one Atelier Jolie fan. “It’s a cool place to hang out.”

“It was definitely a labor of love on Jolie’s part to spotlight the artists. And the coffee is good, the cafe is fun,” the source added.
‘Everyone there seems really interested in not making what The Gap sells; there’s a lot of craftsmanship. The classes are great. And people talk about how amazing Angelina is for opening the store. They love her. There are a lot of Jolie fans there.
«Angelina comes to the workshop, and so do some of her children.»
Inside the store hangs clothing from sustainable brands from around the world, Atelier Jolie’s own collection, art and a refugee-run café called Eat Offbeat.
It is in the NoHo neighborhood of New York that was formerly the studio and home of Jean-Michel Basquiat, according to the WSJ.
Last year, Jolie told the WSJ that she will “probably lose money, maybe even for a while” on her store.
“If I can eventually put some things in place that I think are improvements and just draw, that’ll be a great win,” the Salt star said.
Earlier this year they put out a call to creators.
The shop has a piano, chairs and tables, books and a bar.
The artwork can be seen in the background as hands dressed in wooden poles.
‘To all creators: everyone can join in one way or another.
“Every customer will be part of it… And anyone who visits or participates online or in the numerous events will be part of it… But today we will focus on a part of our Atelier family.”
The Tomb Raider star added that he was looking for “expert tailors.”
‘The first workshop will be in New York, this position is for qualified tailors who live there. We hope to have more soon, as we build a global family.
‘We are looking for tailors who understand quality and creativity. Atelier Jolie will select some talented and promising tailors who have a strong point of view on design.
‘The purpose of this collective is to collaborate with clients, giving them tools to design and create. You will also have the opportunity to develop your own line and sell in the store under your name, to help launch your own sustainable brand after leaving the residency.
‘We understand that for financial reasons you may not have been able to address the issue of sustainability, so we are here to support that effort.
‘Soon, we will be looking for artisans, with a focus on embroidery, fabric painting, fabric manipulation, etc. There will be different calls for talent submissions. Some will be for special events and salon dinners… Some will be to participate in online tutorials. All to help share their creativity.
‘By completing the submission form below, I encourage all artists to always protect their creations. You should never submit confidential designs… share what you have already shared with the world. We will view the work with respect and integrity.
‘We look forward to reviewing them. Remember, if you don’t hear from us in this round, there will be many more rounds and other opportunities to come.
‘Thanks in advance for sharing your creativity. Be daring.
‘With love, Angelina Jolie, Founder.’
