Last week Jolie and Pitt reached an agreement in their divorce.
Eight years after Angelina filed for divorce citing “irreconcilable differences,” the former couple finally reached an agreement on the terms and both signed it.
Angelina’s lawyer, James Simon, told PEOPLE: ‘More than eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr. Pitt. She and the children left all the property they had shared with Mr. Pitt and since then she has focused on finding peace and healing for her family.
‘This is just one part of a long process that began eight years ago.
“Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she’s relieved this part is over.”
Although the split was bitter, a source close to Jolie added: “She doesn’t speak ill of (Pitt) either in public or private.” She has strived to be bright after a dark time.
Angelina, 49, filed for divorce from Brad, 61, in September 2016, after just two years of marriage.
It came just days after a trip on a private plane in which Angelina claimed Brad abused her and her six children, but authorities did not charge him after investigating.

Angelina and Brad later released a joint statement declaring that they would keep all divorce proceedings private for the sake of their children. They said: ‘The parties and their attorneys have entered into agreements to preserve the privacy rights of their children and family members by keeping all court documents confidential and retaining a private judge to make the necessary legal decisions and facilitate the expeditious resolution of any outstanding issues.
“Parents are committed to acting as a united front to achieve recovery and reunification.”
The former couple share children Maddox, 23, Pax, 21, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, and twins Vivienne and Knox, now 16.
They were declared legally single in 2019, but have fought over custody and legal issues over their French estate and winery, Château Miraval, since the split.
Meanwhile, Jolie has a promising new project set for early 2025 that will keep her passport busy.

His co-star Halle Berry has called it a “mix of Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Mission Impossible with a touch of comedy” and two women in the lead roles.
Deadline added that it was a ‘Bond vs. Bourne’ with exotic locations.
Berry told the audience at the Red Sea International Film Festival that he may return to Saudi Arabia to film the film.
There will also be other locations that viewers aren’t used to seeing in a movie, Berry added. That means Jolie will be traveling a lot for the project.

Despite this, Halle acknowledged that their friendship actually had a “rocky start.”
