Angelina Jolie has gotten her first glimpse of her role in the upcoming thriller Those Who Wish Me Dead, ahead of its release next month.

The actress, who plays the smoke jumper Hannah in the Taylor Sheridan-directed film, is seen with an ax surrounded by burning trees in the middle of a forest fire.

In another photo, the 45-year-old makes her way through the Montana wilderness with her young costar Finn Little.

Hannah is a survival expert who, still reeling from failing to save three people from a fire, encounters a troubled 12-year-old (Little) who has witnessed a murder and is hunted by hitmen.

Based on Michael Koryta’s 2014 novel of the same name, the film sees Hannah trying to help the boy who “got caught up in something he should never have been a part of,” says Little. PEOPLE

“She carries a lot of guilt and is quite broken,” Jolie said of her character.

“She’s a smoke jumper and a bit of an adrenaline junkie, but she’s also someone who’s been through a tragedy, and she feels responsible for it.”

“At first glance, the story feels like a thriller, with a lot of really interesting characters and a great adventure across unusual terrain, set in a big fire,” added Jolie.

‘But underneath it is an emotional film about people who are thrown together to survive.’

Jolie says the role pushed its limits and she was happy to get ‘dirty and sweaty’ and ‘just get harder’.

The Academy Award winner also stars Nicholas Hoult, John Bernthal, Tyler Perry and Aidan Gillen in the film.

Those Who Wish Me Dead will hit theaters May 14 and on HBO Max.
