Angelina Jolie would like to leave Los Angeles, where Jon Voight’s daughter grew up with single mother Marcheline Bertrand in the Beverly Hills area.
The Oscar winner, 49, said in the Sept. 4 issue of The Hollywood Reporter On Friday, she told the magazine that she would prefer to live in a country like Cambodia, where there is more privacy.
That’s where the Maleficent actress finds the most “humanity.”
But the star, whose next film is about Maria Callas, can’t just pack up and leave because she’s still struggling with her eight-year-old divorce from Brad Pitt.
While they continue to negotiate a custody agreement with their two youngest children, Vivienne and Knox, Jolie is unable to settle anywhere else.
Vivienne and Knox will become adults when they turn 18 on July 12, 2026.

Jolie also co-parented four other children with Pitt, but they are now adults and free to roam the world as they wish.
They are Maddox, 18, Pax, 20, Zahara, 19, and Shiloh, 18.
Jolie currently lives in a historic residence in Los Feliz, California.
It is a Beaux Arts style mansion built for Cecil B. DeMille that she purchased after her split from Brad in 2016.
Pitt is currently in the Los Angeles area. He’s been busy making movies. His next film is Wolfs with George Clooney. And he’s dating jewelry executive Ines de Ramon.
“I grew up in this town. I’m here because I have to be here after a divorce, but as soon as they’re 18 I can leave,” Jolie told The Hollywood Reporter.
‘When you have a large family, you want them to have privacy, peace and security.
‘I have a home now to raise my children, but sometimes this place can be… that humanity I found on the other side of the world is not the one I grew up with here.
“After Los Angeles, I’ll be spending a lot of time in Cambodia. I’ll be visiting my relatives wherever they are in the world.”

The artist also talked about how much she likes having people around her.
‘I like being with the people I love. I’m not a person who begs to be alone. I’m not that person who thinks, “Oh, I wish I was alone so I could indulge in my guilty pleasures.”
“Because usually my guilty pleasure is being with someone. I love doing something that makes them happy. That really makes me happy.”
And she doesn’t have many friends in Hollywood as she mentions “betrayal.”
“I don’t really have those kinds of relationships,” the Gia actress added.
“Maybe it’s losing your parents when you’re young. Maybe it’s working. Maybe it’s being someone who’s been betrayed too many times.
‘I don’t have a lot of those warm, close relationships that I lean on so much. But I have a few, and a few are enough. Loung (Ung, the Cambodian-American human rights activist) is one of my closest friends.
‘My mother was very dear to me. I lost her. Over the years, some friends were not there for my family in times of need. I have a couple of people I trust. Who did Maria Callas die with? With two trusted people.’

Also in her interview, Jolie spoke about her feelings towards Hollywood.
“I became an artist when I was a child, just to help my mother pay the bills,” she said.
“There were times when I loved being an artist and other times when I felt very, very far from comfortable in the business. I look forward to having a new relationship with him.”
He has two new films.
Maria, about opera singer Maria Callas, and Bloodless, the war drama he wrote and directed based on Alessandro Baricco’s 2002 novel.
She said that her film Maria is very personal to her and that it really moved her.
And Jolie felt sorry for the singer.
“People got very aggressive when she couldn’t be what they wanted her to be. They were very cruel and she suffered a lot of trauma and worked very, very hard. I started to really care about her and I wanted that side of the story to be told,” she told HR.
Angelina said someone from a “past relationship” told her she would never be able to sing, which held her back for years. “So I had to overcome a lot of things to start singing.”
Jolie attends a red carpet for Maria during the 81st Venice International Film Festival on August 29.
He also said he had an emotional reaction when he was taught how to express himself as an opera singer.
‘In my first class I cried. I was sad, I was scared. It was a strange physical reaction.
‘I stood there and (the instructor) said, ‘Okay, just stay in your body. Take a deep breath, let it all out and just open your mouth and let that sound come out from inside.’
“And that’s when I really got emotional. I discovered how much we lock pain away in our bodies.
“Our voices get tense, our shoulders hunch, our stomachs hurt, we do all those things and it protects us. The hardest thing was to feel again, to breathe and to open ourselves up again in the way that this film required, and that I hadn’t done for a long time.”
And she is drawn to creation.

‘I’d like to know how to be still and calm. I feel pushed forward constantly and it’s not always the best feeling. For better or worse, I’m a person who feels deeply and is kind of on edge. So when I feel something deeply, I jump. I feel alive or I connect with something true inside of me.’
Angelina said someone from a “previous relationship” told her she would never be able to sing, which held her back for years. “So I had to overcome a lot of things to start singing.”
And she was glad that her sons Maddox and Pax were there for her on the set of Maria to comfort her when a scene got difficult. They worked as assistant directors.
“You try to hide from your children how much pain and sadness you carry around with you. And for them to be there for you when you express it at that level, I think that was the first time they heard me cry like that. That usually happens in the shower.”
What’s next? I would play a real villain, not a bad person who is actually good like Maleficent, but someone very twisted.
