The lawyer for Shiloh, the daughter of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, has issued a new statement regarding her “significant decision” to abandon her father’s surname.

The 18-year-old, who is one of the former couple’s six children, requested the name change on her birthday, May 27 this year. The change was publicly announced via a legal notice in the Los Angeles Times.

Regarding the public name change, in a statement on behalf of the teen, Shiloh’s attorney Peter Levine shared that she “made an independent and meaningful decision after painful events” and added that she was “simply following the legal process” by releasing the information.

“Shiloh Jolie did not put out an ‘announcement’ announcing any name change, nor any press reports that are inaccurate,” Levine clarified, according to People.

“As Shiloh’s attorney, I am required to publish a legal notice because California law requires anyone who wants to change their name to do so. That legal notice was published in the Los Angeles Times, as required.”

In addition to Shiloh, the exes share sons Maddox, 22, Pax, 20, daughter Zahara, 19, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 16.

Zahara and Vivienne also dropped Pitt’s name from their names, though it’s unclear whether Vivienne made the change legally.

Pitt has “virtually no contact” with his older children, according to a recent report.

A month after Shiloh requested to stop using her last name, a source revealed to People that Pitt’s relationship with his older children remains strained.

“She has virtually no contact with her adult children. Her involvement with the younger ones has been more limited in recent months due to her filming schedule,” the source shared.

Angelina filed for divorce from the actor in 2019 after five years of marriage.

The union ended in controversy and it seems that their children took sides.

The two filmmakers have been locked in a bitter battle over his vineyard and home in France after the Tomb Raider star sold his $64 million stake to Russian billionaire Yuri Shefler in 2021.

They later entered into a heated dispute over confidentiality agreements, which have become a key sticking point in their fight.

Jolie is now asking Pitt to “end the feud” and drop the lawsuit against her to allow her family to “heal.”

But sources told DailyMail.com that the Fight Club star has “no intention” of stepping down, claiming Jolie only made the statement after realising she doesn’t have as strong a case as she previously thought.

“Brad is not going to drop this lawsuit, why would he? This was a very common business dispute, but unfortunately Angelina has constantly introduced personal elements that should be resolved in divorce court,” revealed a person close to the situation.
